Taking time to help out a social enterprise in Cambodia

| 16.09.2016 | Crédit Agricole Group

On 8 August 2016, Jaana, who works at Crédit Agricole CIB, headed off for two very special weeks in Cambodia. After submitting an application in response to a call for volunteers, she was selected to help out the admin team of Phare Ponleuk Selpak Enterprise (PPSE), a Cambodian circus, social enterprise and partner of the Grameen Crédit Agricole Foundation.

PPSE, using art to help vulnerable children

PPSE works with vulnerable children and young adults, operating in three areas:
- Artistic training
- Social support
- Educational programmes

PPSE also stages circus performances with young people who have received its artistic training.

A win-win experience

PPSE benefited from advice from Jaana, who conducted an audit of the enterprise’s cash flow procedures. She also trained employees in basic accounting and helped to overhaul PPSE’s administrative organisation.
When she arrived, Jaana got a warm welcome and quickly became part of the team, enjoying meals, visits and other shared times together.
Thanks to this volunteer leave opportunity and to Crédit Agricole, which funded the trip, Jaana was able to use her skills to help protect vulnerable children.

Since she got back, she has been helping with a fund-raising campaign organised by the non-governmental organisation that founded PPSE.

Through to end-September, funds are being raised to provide lunch to 100 underprivileged children every day until the end of the year. 1$ buys one meal. If you would like to participate and make a donation, click here.
